What Does ‘Factory Authorized’ Mean?

Most simply, a Factory Authorized Dealer is someone who has an agreement with a specific manufacturer to market their products in a specific venue. This dealer would then have that manufacturers’ endorsement and support for such marketing. This authorization would mean that the products made available to the consumer would be of the quality the manufacturer intends. It would mean that necessary information for the proper selection and use of those products would be available to the consumer. It would also mean that if a difficulty arises (such as defective merchandise) such difficulty would be remedied in a way satisfactory to the manufacturer.

Factory Authorization can be limited in scope. For instance, a dealer may be authorized to sell a single product line of a manufacturer in the surrounding area of his retail store. This does not necessarily mean that he is authorized to sell in the neighboring community. Nor does it mean that he is authorized to sell the manufacturers’ other product lines. It certainly does not mean that he is authorized for every other brand that he offers for sale.

Many manufacturers grant Factory Authorized status to few or even no Internet dealers. As related above, the services a manufacturer requires an Authorized Dealer to perform are often unavailable from Internet resellers.

Authorized or Non-Authorized Dealers? Does it matter?

Main Street Audio is factory authorized for most brands we sell. We have a very good relationship with these manufactures and are proud to present their lines to the consumer. We challenge you to find any local dealer in your home town who is actually "Authorized" for every brand of merchandise he sells! Unfortunately there are Internet retailers that falsely claim factory authorization where in fact there is none. Although some manufacturers do attempt to prevent this type of activity, it does indeed exist.

What does it really mean to you, the consumer?

Regardless of what some websites publish, there are manufacturers who refuse to warranty their products if not purchased from an authorized dealer. The customer may never know for certain about a dealer until he/she has a warranty issue.
